Authentic or not…?

Brorritos was started in 2020 by myself and Samet, we loved eating fresh food on the go and Burritos are literally the perfect vessel for that. Obviously we would fall into a Mexican category no doubt about that, but authentic? We’re not so sure. We’re two guys from south east London serving food we love..some of it traditional, some of it not. What matters to us is doing it properly and being authentic to ourselves, keeping it fresh, and making stuff we’re proud to eat.

We’ve done a lot of specials before simply because we thought it would be fun to see what would happen. A Bombay Brorrito was definitely a hit, the meatball one maybe not so much… but if you don’t try, you never know.

We are always trying to improve what we do, hopefully you guys that have been eating our food since the pop up can agree with that 😅.

We’ve always sold food that we have been proud of and that’s never gonna change.

5 years ago (yesterday) Me & Samet thought it would be a good idea to start selling burritos in Eltham…

People always ask us why did an Italian and a Turk start a Mexican restaurant in South East London? We’ve changed the answer about a million times but in truth, we just really really liked the food and couldn’t work out why it wasn’t easily accessible to get a decent burrito where we lived. So as naive 23 year olds we thought it can’t be that hard and wanted to do it ourselves.

And so Brorritos was born. Two brothers from different mothers selling burritos, the name wrote itself to be honest. What started out as a bit of fun at a depressing time (it was 2020 so need I say more) turned into a serious food business. Pretty quickly we went from selling to friends and family on Instagram to selling to actual customers. For some strange reason we offered home delivery for £1, which meant me or Samet would get in our car to take the food and the other would be left in the shop praying that no one walked in otherwise they’d be pretty stuffed. We got busier and busier and soon realised that maybe this could actually be something.

From that temporary pop up, we were lucky enough to open our first proper bricks and mortar a year later and that’s where the work really started.

Yesterday marks 5 years since that pop up opening day. A lot has changed since then, but our goal has stayed the same. We want to sell fresh fast food consistently, so no matter where you find us the product and service is exactly the same as last time. And we strive to be better than yesterday, always thinking about how the restaurant and business can be better and better and better.

We wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who we have interacted with since then! To the og customers that ordered back then I want to say sorry about the food - I hope you think it has improved since then 😅 but genuinely thank you. To all the members of team that we have employed that has helped us (and keep helping us) on our journey - thank you too.

To anyone reading this, thank you & be lucky, see you in 2030 x

The Monzo Scam.

We got a call from someone pretending to be from Monzo who then proceeded to clear us out. In our defence, it was quite elaborate & we had just opened our first proper restaurant so we weren't really thinking straight - but yeah not good. We can laugh about it now but we did think that it could’ve been the end of us.

But it made us better people. And by better I mean trusting no one and second guessing everything. From rock bottom we started to think seriously about the business, reinvested what we nearly lost and started putting the wheels in motion to start expanding.

We’ve made countless mistakes in the last 5 years, but that was probably the biggest!

During COVID, Samet’s brother’s café was sitting empty, so he was like, "Why not give your idea a go?" No proper menu. No business plan. Just two guys, a tiny Instagram page, and a whole lot of trial and error 😂

We’d take orders, make the food, AND do our own deliveries. One of us would be cooking while the other was zooming across town with a burrito, praying Deliveroo wouldn’t pop off in the meantime. Chaos. Absolute chaos.

Drivers kept missing our tiny homemade sign but somehow… it worked. Then came the make or break moment: Go all in, or get a “real job.”

No food experience, no business experience, just every single penny we had. No risk at all, right? 😅

BIG THANK YOU to everyone that has made their way down to our 3rd shop opening last week. thank you to everyone that queued for the burritos too on opening day in classic london weather. apologies to those that missed out but if you can make me laugh in the dms I’ll give you a voucher x

we’re open from 12 - 10pm, with @bpmlife_ starting from 4pm🎵

we have 100 burritos to give out for free to the first 100 customers - yes it’s one per customer, put your complaints in an email.

brorritos, clapham #3; *softly* opening doors 28th Jan (Grand Opening 1st Feb)

3 months of hard graft seems a distant memory now. this has taken a lot of work to get these doors open, too much to name. but if I had to; upgrading power supply, digging up the road, reinforcing structure, complete rewiring, 25 five guys double bacon cheeseburgers (all the way), 18 Lambeth council parking fines, 3 French hens & one tired walk in fridge.

we’re dusty and fat but we’re nearly there. we’ll be opening doors next Tuesday (28th Jan), so if you’re passing please come in and get some food, we’d love to say hello. then on Saturday (1st Feb) we’ll be having a proper grand opening - @bpmlife_ on the mixer & some decent food deals - 100 free burritos to the first 100 customers 👀👀👀

we want to say thanks for everyone that’s helped us on our journey & a special thank you to people that have helped on this project; kitchen fabrication @okeltd , design @robertofaratrodesign .
